Cunniffe & Helm has recently completed the expansion of a new fibre network core for Village Networks, an award-winning Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) serving customers in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Expanding on Village Networks existing fibre backbone this new Point of Presence in London’s Telehouse datacentres adds additional capacity, connectivity and expansion options to their network. Built with fully redundant switch and routing stacks, and connecting into multiple new transit providers and the London Internet Exchange (LINX), this new PoP increases the reach of Village Networks Tier II network. Newly established peering relationships with major networks further increase the quality of the connections Village Networks provide their customers, fulling their drive to deliver the highest quality, low latency and low jitter connections.
In addition to the network infrastructure new authentication and monitoring solutions, built on hypervisor services, were deployed. Designed to increase visibility and security on the network these services help prepare the network for continuing growth.
Telehouse was selected due to its unreviewed density of network providers in the UK. Links into major transit providers and wholesale carriers will allow Village Networks to expand their reach into the rural communities they serve, and further diversify their product offering. As part of the build 10G links were integrated into Gigaclear’s wholesale network, adding residential and business full fibre services to Village Networks portfolio.
Cunniffe & Helm was commissioned to design and build this new network location. Working with the team at Village Networks we identified the best locations, connectivity options and routing design to achieve their expansion objectives. Key to the design was looking at long-term cost reduction and the removal of reliance on any single supplier. This build helps to meet those objectives, and Cunniffe & Helm continue to work with Village Networks, assisting them in their goals.
